Satan uses fear to distract us and pull us away from what God has called us to do. If we spend all of our energy and direct all of our focus and attention on our fears, worries, concerns and anxieties, we’re not able to live according to God’s purpose. When we are afraid, we should be turning to God and leaning into His Truth.
Sometimes, it feels like things just can’t get any worse. Everything has already gone wrong, yet with each new day comes more bad news. In these moments, I find myself questioning God. “How much more?” “When are you going to step in and help?” When I take the time to look closely, to look for God, that’s when I start to see that there is still good, even in the storms of life. That’s because God is there, He has always been there, in the midst of it all.
In the story of the rich young ruler, Jesus knew riches and possessions would always be a wedge between mankind and a relationship with God. If we are not willing to put God before our earthly possessions, then it’s safe to assume heart posture is out of alignment. For each of us, that barrier, that distraction, that roadblock, is something different. It will always be difficult to give up that thing we feel entitled to, or that we have earned, and especially what you worked hard for. Usually, God doesn’t require us give it all up, but we must be willing to let it all go and follow Him if that’s what He calls us to do. It’s truly a heart thing.
